Emilio Aguinaldo College extended its winning ways after narrowly surviving San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 83-82, in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball on Sunday at the Filoil Centre.
Kelly Coronel once again dazzled with 24 points, three rebounds, four assists, and two blocks while James Castro scattered 17 markers, five boards, two dimes, and two steals as they averted a collapse from a 15-point lead.
The win allowed the Brigadiers to cruise to their fifth win in a row, claiming solo lead in Group B with a 5-1 card.
A Xyriel Macahipay jumper saw EAC take a 41-26 lead early in the second period, but the Staglets slowly crawled their way back through a fourth-quarter surge behind Mark Esperanza.
Esperanza completed a three-point play that cut the deficit to four, 82-78, in the final 53 seconds of the game. Browyn Tepan then cleaned up a JC Ynot miss to further close the gap to two in the final 30 seconds.
But EAC held on to pull off the one-point victory.
Esperanza went off with 28 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block while Ynot churned out 20 markers, three boards, four dimes, and five steals as San Sebastian fell to 1-5.
